Test Cricketer comes to Blandford
On 14th March, Henry Olonga, the ex-Zimbabwean fast bowler and test cricketer came to Blandford. He was the after dinner speaker who joined our friends and guests at the Ashley Wood Golf Clubhouse.
Henry was the first black Zimbabwean test cricketer and at the time the youngest ever to play for that country. His black arm band protest at a Cricket World Cup match in 2003, against the policies of his government, led to the issue of a warrant for his arrest on charges of treason. As a consequence he was forced to retire from international cricket.
He became a Christian at the age of sixteen and his faith has shaped his life, career and his current aspirations and achievements as an accomplished singer and artist.
During the evening, Henry related his story and the importance of his personal faith in God, as he endeavours to live out his Christian faith through his new career.
Henry was also the guest speaker at the morning service on Sunday 15th March.
