Gift Projects

Over a number of years, we have had a lot of fun giving away free gifts to members of our community. This has mainly been undertaken in the town centre, but we have also visited some of the residential areas in the town. Each project is funded entirely from the church congregation through special gift days.

Our intention is to give a positive message to those people we encounter, by offering a free gift such as a chocolate egg at Easter, Christmas tree decorations at Christmas, flowers on Valentine’s Day, flowering bulbs in the autumn or a can of chilled Coca Cola  on a hot summer’s day. We have also washed cars for some of the shoppers.

We try to answer bemused looks and questions about why we do this, by saying that we are simply trying to show God’s love in a practical way. Each gift is accompanied by a business card sized card that carries a seasonal message or phrase.

This approach to building relationships and breaking down prejudices has been well received. We hope that in time, some of the people we have contacted will embark on a journey towards faith in God.
