Our Roots

Blandford Evangelical Church was founded in 1972 by 5 Christian couples who had a vision, as followers of Jesus Christ, to find ways of sharing the life transforming power of God that they had found, with the town of Blandford and its surrounding village communities.

Initially the group met in a local farmhouse but quickly outgrew this venue. In 1977 a redundant Methodist Church building in the town was purchased, completely renovated and modernised. At this point the congregation of less than thirty members moved in.

The church grew rapidly through Christian people moving into the area but also many coming to personal faith in Jesus Christ through the church’s ministry. The current membership of the church is 120, with well over 250 adults and children attending and typical weekly morning congregations totaling between 150-240.

Our Senior Pastor, Brook MacCallum and his wife Liz, have been on the staff of the church since 1994. It is our desire to appoint a further staff member in the near future. Perhaps best described as a charismatic evangelical church, we aim to make our services and activities very accessible to people from the community who are unfamiliar with church.

We have a contemporary style of worship that embraces the new streams of worship songs, whilst holding on to the best of the old. It is our aim and desire that the congregation should enjoy freedom of expression in worship and use of spiritual gifts. We seek to minister under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Our vision is not only to effectively reach the people of the town and its catchment area with the gospel, but also support and resource rural congregations in the surrounding villages that are aiming to reach their communities.
